One hope I have when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is I as an Early Childhood Educator can embrace all cultures and ways of living. I also want to teach children about different ways of life and how each of us have our differences and similarities.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is to foster the development of the whole child by helping them understand themselves and the world. They need to have cognitive and social-emotional skills developed to question the world and make their way through it.
Thank you to all my colleagues who have supported me through this class with meaningful discussions and feedback. I wish you the best on your journey.
Alissa,
ReplyDeleteWe share the same goal of teaching children to embrace similarities and differences in people. I agree it would help them understand the world we live in and most importantly to responsibly contribute to it.
Hi Alissa,
ReplyDeleteI think it's important that teachers embrace and appreciate different cultures. As a teacher, I definitely want to teach my students that our differences are what make each of us unique in our own way and that we should celebrate being different :-) I have really enjoyed reading your blogs and discussions. I wish you the best in your future courses!!
Hi Alissa, I too want to present diverse learning opportunities for children, providing them with even more opportunities to think for themselves, draw their own conclusions, and make informed decisions based on what they have learned and what they already knew. I think it is wonderful when I hear a child come to an informed conclusion about something based on what they know and have learned, whether I agree or not...when I know I have done my part.
